Indoor Air Purification Systems
What exactly is indoor air quality?
Indoor air quality refers to air quality within the buildings we live in, work in or spend any time in and it’s known to affect the health, comfort and well-being of building occupants. According to the Government of Canada, air contaminants and pollutants present in the air can lead to health concerns.
There are a number of allergens and substances of concern including dust, cigarette smoke and so-called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) emitted as gases from household products like paints and aerosols. Other fine particles that reduce the quality of the air we breathe include mould, fungi, bacteria, dust mites, pollen and spores.
At Reliance™, we have many products that could help improve the quality of the air in your home. Our Home Comfort Advisors can outline all the options for you and help you choose the one that suits your needs and budget.
Here’s what you need to know to get started:
Our UV air purification systems can work with your existing furnace or may be bundled with a new HVAC system. We offer expert installation services in your area.
UV Purity System
Ultra-Violet Light Systems use ultra-violet light technology and help to sterilize mold, bacteria, viruses. A Home Comfort Advisor can help you to decide if a UV System is right for you and advise on which one will fit your needs.
UV Light System
Attacks microorganisms on a molecular level to help prevent them from multiplying. 16” UVC germicidal lamp uses the same UV wavelengths as produced by the sun.
HEPA Air Cleaner
Ask your Home Comfort Advisor about upgrading your furnace with a HEPA Air Cleaner. HEPA stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Air. Unlike traditional high efficiency air cleaners, which remove only about 85% of pollutants down to 3 micron in size, HEPA air cleaners are so effective, they remove about 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns from the air.
We also have a variety of air filters to choose from. You can learn more about choosing the right air filters here and here.)
Humidifiers
There are many health reasons to have a furnace and humidifier work together to improve your comfort at home. Cracked skin. Irritated sinuses. A scratchy throat and itchy eyes. Dry air is a common source of discomfort at home, and can contribute to a variety of respiratory problems and increased allergy symptoms. With average Canadians spending up to 90% of their time indoors, according to the Canadian Lung Association, poor air quality is a real concern all year round. Problems increase in winter, however, because when air is heated, its relative humidity drops. Not only that, low humidity in the air makes the temperature in your home feel colder, which can lead to you turning up the heat even more, needlessly increasing your heating bill.
Lifebreath HRV and ERV
Many contaminants found in indoor air are generated inside the home. These can be lowered by replacing your indoor air with air from outside. Therefore, the best way to improve your indoor air quality is to improve your ventilation and provide more clean outside air to your living space. Consider adding a heat recovery ventilator (HRV) or energy recovery ventilator (ERV) to not only supply clean, fresh air, but recover the energy and humidity(ERV only) from the exhaust air.

Rent or buy: What’s the smart choice?
A UV air purification system is a smart investment in your family’s wellbeing. When it comes to the decision to rent or buy, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- If you rent, you’ll pay for your system through affordable monthly payments which can simplify your household budget.
- Your rental fee covers servicing and most repairs.
- Buying involves an upfront cost.
- Owning means you’ll be responsible for repairs after your equipment warranty expires.
Schedule a consultation to have your Home Comfort Advisor can walk you through both options, so you can make the right choice for your home and your budget.
