How to troubleshoot your Air Conditioner

It may seem obvious, but make sure that your thermostat is turned to COOL.

Also, if your thermostat uses batteries, check to see if they need to be replaced.

If the unit isn’t turning on at all, go to your main electrical panel and check to see

if the breaker has tripped.

There are many things that could go wrong with a cooling system. Not everything requires a service visit from a professional. Here are simple fixes to some common air conditioner issues:

• Filter: A clogged or blocked furnace filter could reduce cool air entering your home and even cause the unit to stop working.

Thermostat: Turn the thermostat to ‘cool’ and set the temperature 3-5 degrees below the current room temperate. Don’t turn the thermostat lower than that or it could cause additional issues.
Double check service switches: Have they been turned off by accident?
Circuit breakers: Inspect your circuit box for a tripped breaker and reset it.
Vents: Your vents should be open and have space between them to allow airflow.
Check outdoor air conditioner unit: For proper airflow, remove landscaping and clear away any debris.
