Leaky Faucet Keeping You Up at Night?

A dripping tap is more than just a nuisance. It’s also the sound of money going down your drain. Even a slow leak can add up to hundreds of litres of wasted water every year. That’s bad news for your water bill, and for the environment.

Leaky faucets are one of the most common residential plumbing problems. From bathtubs to kitchen sinks, faucets are in daily use so it’s not surprising that seals and other parts wear out or become damaged over time.

Luckily, leaky faucets are also one of the easiest plumbing problems to identify and fix. So, there’s no reason to put up with annoying drip-drip-drip.

Whether it’s a small leak or a major  plumbing disaster, you want a well-trained,
trustworthy professional to be there fast and get  the job done right the first time. But finding the
right plumber can be a difficult task so to help  you find the right one, we’ve come up with a few
things that you may want to consider. First, make  sure to check the customer reviews on sites like
Google of any plumbers that you find online to  make sure that they are reliable and professional.
Reviews will also help you determine whether  that person or service company is courteous,
trustworthy and affordable. After all, this is  someone that you will be inviting inside of your
home. Next, making sure to confirm that they are  licensed and insured seems like common sense but
you’ll be surprised how many plumbers out there  operate without proper credentials or insurance
coverage that help protect both you and the  plumber in case of a dispute or accident. Also,
request upfront pricing and avoid anyone who  doesn’t provide a quote in writing. A plumbing
professional will need to do an initial assessment  but depending on the issue you’re experiencing
and the plumber you hire, the cost of a repair  can vary. Understanding and agreeing to a price
upfront allows you to stay in control of the job  from start to finish while giving you peace of
mind. Another thing to consider is to work with a  plumber or service company that values your time.
The plumber coming to your home should be ready  and prepared to fix your issue on the first visit.
This means with all the tools and equipment  on hand. When you’re experiencing a problem,
you don’t want to wait around. Availability,  quick response and preparedness will ensure
that a simple issue doesn’t take much longer  than expected to be completed. And finally,
keep in mind that Pros often know other Pros.  If you’ve had a good experience with your water
heater tech or HVAC professional, ask them to  refer you to a licensed plumber. At Reliance,
we know that you can never plan for a plumbing  emergency, but knowing exactly what to do when
one arises is critical. We deliver expert  service at competitive prices. Our certified
and fully-insured professionals will tell you  what to expect from your repair costs and will
show up at your doorstep with all the tools and  spare parts needed to take care of the problem
the first time. We’re also dedicated to bringing  you and your family peace of mind year-round. To
help avoid most unexpected repair costs, call  us today and ask about our Plumbing Protection

4 Causes of a Leaky Faucet

Here are a few things that could be causing your leaky faucet:

During use, your faucet’s rubber washer is forced against the valve seat. This constant friction will cause the washer to wear out over time – resulting in a dripping tap. A worn-out washer is one of the most common cause of a leaky faucet, and also the simplest one to fix.

The O-ring is attached to the stem screw that holds the handle of your faucet in place. If the O-ring becomes loose or wears out from regular use, your faucet may drip near the handle and should be replaced.

If your faucet still drips after you have replaced the washer and O-ring, you may have a corroded valve seat. A professional plumber can clean or replace the part to fix the leak.

If your washer is the wrong size or improperly installed it can cause a leaky faucet. A residential plumber can help you select and install the right washer for your tap.

A licensed plumbing professional from Reliance™ can diagnose and fix a leaky faucet, whether it’s in your bathroom, kitchen, or outdoors. And because we know every second counts in a plumbing emergency, we’ll tackle your problem quickly and efficiently.

A slow leak from a household faucet may not  seem like a big deal, but even something as
slow as one drip every few seconds may add  up to more than 2,600 litres of wasted water
that you’re paying for each year. Darryl what  causes a leaky faucet? Well, your main cause
of a leaky faucet is simply just wear and  tear. Okay, uh, when you say wear and tear,
what are the main culprits? Well yeah as you can  see on this fixture here, all your cartridges are
inside of the fixture body which is connected to  the handle, which gets everyday use, in turn wears
out the cartridge and it fails. Makes sense. Now  in terms of replacing or repairing that cartridge,
how do we go about that? Well, your first step  what you want to do to replace a cartridge,
you want to shut the water off underneath your  kitchen sink. Once the water’s off and you’ve
verified that it’s off, you want to remove the  handle from your fixture. Okay. This fixture
here you can see we already have the Allen key in  the back. Most handles come off with an Allen key.
It’s simple once you remove the Allen key, that  comes out, the handle simply comes off. Okay.
Once you have the handle off, now you can see  the cartridge. Are cartridges all the same? No,
I’m glad you asked. So, almost every cartridge is  different. There’s many different styles on the
market and the cartridge has to be for that  exact fixturef. Okay so we need to have the
right cartridge now it also looks like we possibly  need some special tools to get in there? Yes. So,
you would want to call on a licensed professional  to change the cartridge. Most cartridges are
corroded in and you’re going to need special  tools to remove it and replace it safely.
