What is Reverse Osmosis (RO) and How You can Benefit From It

infographic shows process of reverse osmosis, detailed in text below it.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a high quality water filtration process that reduces impurities from drinking water. The process forces water through a specialized semi-permeable membrane – it’s very thin, approximately the thickness of cellophane. This allows the filtered water to be passed through leaving almost all of the impurities behind making the water clean and refreshing.

Benefits of RO Water

  • Cleaner drinking water – excellent for cooking
  • Helps make tea or coffee stay true to taste by reducing the number of contaminants
  • No more cloudy ice cubes – hello crystal clear ice cubes
  • Helps reduce levels of certain chemicals and pesticides
  • Helps reduce levels of dissolved inorganic and organic compounds in water
  • Helps reduce levels of contaminants such as chloride, sodium, fluoride, and nitrates
  • Reduces unpleasant odours from water – no more funny smelling water
  • Helps save money – could help reduce the amount of bottled water purchased by your family

How Reliance’s 4-Stage Reverse Osmosis (RO) System Works

Cold water is processed through pre-filters and passed through the semi-permeable membrane

  1. Sediment pre-filter removes larger particles
  2. Carbon pre-filter removes chlorine
  3. Pressure is applied to force water through semi-permeable membrane to reduce total dissolved solids (TDS)
  4. Final rinse – water in the storage tank passes through final carbon filter, ready for your use
