As such, Reliance’s service providers shall ensure it has practices and policies in place compatible with this commitment.
Energy & Climate
Hybrid Electric Service Vehicles
In 2020, we retrofitted six of our service vehicles with XL Hybrid Systems, with 10 more hybrid-electric service vehicles scheduled in 2021. These systems convert traditional gas-powered vehicles into more fuel-efficient hybrids by adding an electric motor and an advanced lithium-ion battery pack, making our vehicles greener and more sustainable.
Receiving monthly statements in your inbox is quick, easy and paper-free. We’re encouraging our customers to switch to paperless billing to help reduce CO2 emissions and paper consumption involved in delivering bills to their homes. While we continue to transition customers to paperless billing, we’ve partnered with One Tree Planted to plant 1 tree for every 10 customers that switch to paperless billing.
Resources & Waste
Elimination of Single-Use Plastics
We are eliminating single-use cups, lids, and cutlery at our branch offices to reduce the amount of waste we consume. We’ve replaced paper cups with ceramic mugs for our team members to enjoy their favourite hot beverage. This small step will divert approximately 65,000 cups from landfills per year.
We’re committed to diverting waste from landfills. Through increased metal and cardboard recycling, we are doing our part to conserve non-renewable resources and reduce greenhouse gases.
Product & Services
Our green solutions such as heat pumps, carbon offset, smart home technology, and tankless water heaters are a simple way for customers to improve their home comfort while making the environmentally-conscious choice.
Reliance has teamed up with Carbonzero to fund carbon reduction initiatives so that we can offer carbon offset credits to our customers.
Habitat for Humanity
Reliance is proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We’re in the business of helping Canadians make their homes comfortable all year round, so we understand how important it is to have a home. In 2020, with the help of our HVAC and water heater manufacturer partners, we donated equipment and installation hours to local Habitat for Humanity builds.
In communities across Canada, United Way addresses social issues such as poverty, lack of affordable housing and domestic violence. Through our annual United Way campaign and Denim Days program, we encourage our team members to help build stronger communities. In 2020, our Team Members and Reliance donated over $750,000.
One Tree Planted
We care deeply about the planet and operating our business in a manner that gives back to nature. That’s why we’ve partnered with One Tree Planted, a non-profit dedicated to global reforestation. In 2021, we’re committing to planting approximately 10,000 trees – 1 tree for every 10 customers that switch to paperless billing.
