CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program: Launching June 18, 2024

The CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program is set to open for registration on June 18, 2024. This initiative aims to assist British Columbians in transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy, enhancing home efficiency, and boosting comfort. The program is designed to make electric heat pumps and other efficiency upgrades more accessible and affordable for low- and middle-income households across British Columbia, leading to potentially lower energy bills and more sustainable communities.

Significant Rebates for Eligible Applicants

Income-qualified participants could receive rebates of up to $16,000 to convert homes heated by oil, natural gas, or propane to high-efficiency electric heat pumps.  Homes requiring electrical system upgrades may qualify for an additional $5,000, potentially bringing the total rebate to $21,000 for eligible applicants.

Continued Support for Various Home-Efficiency Upgrades

The program also supports other efficiency enhancements such as insulation, windows, doors, and ventilation. Households converting from electric baseboards to electric heat pumps can receive up to $5,000 in rebates through BC Hydro’s energy-efficiency measures.

CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program Overview

  • Rebate Amount: Up to $21,000 for heat pump installation and electrical system upgrades (where required).
  • Eligibility: B.C. residents in eligible homes who meet income qualifications and have utility accounts from BC Hydro, FortisBC, or municipal utilities.
  • Qualifying Products: Eligible products must be installed by a Program Registered Contractor like Reliance®.
