Unifor Negotiation Update

You may be aware that Reliance’s current Collective Agreements with Unifor have expired as of March 31, 2021. After bargaining with Unifor on multiple days, we reached a tentative Agreement with Local 1999 in March, which was not ratified by the membership. This is disappointing news as we continue to believe the Agreement will provide much needed clarity, stability, and predictability – for Reliance, for our Team Members, and for our customers.

Earlier this week Reliance communicated to Unifor that we will move to a ‘lockout’ of Local 1999 Team Members at 12:01 a.m. on May 13, 2021, if a finalized Collective Agreement is not reached by that time.

Rest assured, we are committed to meeting our customers’ service requirements. Contingency plans are in place to ensure our customers continue to enjoy the peace-of-mind they expect with Reliance as their full-service home comfort provider. This includes working closely with our existing networks of suppliers and subcontractors to deliver our services. These partners have always worked with us to make sure that our customers have professional assistance and peace of mind when needed.

At the same time, we will work toward a fair and reasonable agreement with Unifor. Reliance has been recognized (twice) for having one of the most enviable and admired corporate cultures in Canada. We are confident that we will reach an agreement that reflects our commitment to our team members, to our customers, and to our shared interests.
