Here are five things you can check before you give us a call. They may just save you the cost and inconvenience of an unnecessary house call.

Check your thermostat setting. Is it on ‘heat’? You’d be surprised how easy it is to forget to make the change when the temperature drops.
Check your furnace unit and make sure it’s turned on. You should find the switch on a nearby wall.

Check your home’s breaker panel. Is the circuit breaker marked ‘furnace’ in the correct position?
Check your furnace’s outdoor air vents. You’ll find these on the exterior of your home. Make sure they aren’t blocked by snow, ice, debris, or a nesting animal. (A thorough furnace vent inspection should be left to a professional.)
Check your furnace filter. Most should be changed every three months or according to the recommendations of your equipment manufacturer. If you have 4- or 5-inch media filters, they can be changed every 6 months to a year, depending on manufacturer specifications.
